one by one®: Tim Jordan Memorial Fund Co.

Debra Franzen, founder of the Tim Jordan Memorial Fund Co., was forever changed in September 2015, when her son, Tim Jordan, passed away. A driver made a left-hand turn in front of him, leaving him nowhere to go to avoid an accident.

Through an annual ride and after-party, the Tim Jordan Memorial Co. Fund provides financial aid to families enduring challenges and expenses related to a motorcycle accident. Participants in this year’s ride received a branded cooler giveaway to help continue spreading awareness after the event was over.

“If we hadn’t had some savings and life insurance, I don’t know if we could have paid for the funeral and other expenses,” Franzen said. “We want to help other families going through the same thing by donating much-needed money.”

A helping hand honors Tim’s memory

Last year, a woman riding on the back of her husband’s motorcycle was thrown off when a vehicle cut in front of them. She faced substantial medical bills and a long road of therapy. A donation from the fund impacted her beyond helping pay for medical bills—it also gave her renewed hope in life.

This year, the fund raised money for a man who was severely injured after being broadsided by a car that went through a red light. This happened just two weeks before he was eligible to receive health insurance through his employer. After undergoing four surgeries, he, along with his young family, faced a long road of adjustments. Everything the fund collects will go to the family to provide some financial peace of mind.

On top of fundraising for practical aid, Tim’s parents visited his high school to talk to the drivers-ed students. They have done this every year since the accident (until 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions). “The message is to just look again. If you’re not sure if someone’s in the lane while you’re driving, just look again. If we can get one kid to take their time and look again, maybe it will save one motorcyclist,” Franzen said.

Cooler giveaways raise awareness

Using a one by one grant, Franzen ordered branded cooler giveaways to give to supporters at the memorial ride. “The coolers are the perfect size to fit inside motorcycle side bags. People can use them to hold drinks or snacks or anything else during the ride, plus any day afterward,” Franzen said. “The coolers will hopefully spark conversations about our cause when people are out and about too.”
