The classic polo or button-down dress shirt works for some business staff, but there’s another world of corporate apparel that you might not have considered. That’s the word from Sara, one of our apparel experts in 4imprint’s Merchandising Department.
“I’m stepping away from traditional dress shirts to point out some other styles within this category that are unique and possibly less recognized, but still popular,” Sara said. Here are four of her suggestions for putting these unexpected casual corporate apparel ideas into action at your company:
- Airy sportsman shirts catch their attention: “Most commonly referred to as fishing shirts, sportsman shirts are designed for the outdoors and work well for fishing, hiking, or any number of outside activities,” Sara said. “They are lightweight and breathable. These shirts often have UV protection and moisture-wicking properties, and they hold up well in the elements, since most are made from polyester ripstop fabric.” Employees who work in the heat (indoors or out) will appreciate these breathable options. One example is the Columbia® Bahama II Shirt. It’s made of fast-drying 100% nylon with UV and antimicrobial protection to help wearers feel cool and fresh all day. Another terrific sportsman shirt is the Red Kap® Short Sleeve Crew Shirt. It’s made of 65/35 cotton/poly with moisture-wicking and soil-release technology to repel stains.
- Casual flannel shirts are trendy and warm: “A staple when the weather gets cooler, flannel shirts provide an extra layer of warmth and comfort,” Sara said. “Often in plaid patterns, but sometimes available in solid colours, they can range from lightweight to heavyweight—and they’re a great casual corporate apparel option for men and women alike.” These shirts are often worn untucked and can be paired with a T-shirt underneath. Or button them up for a tailored look. Most men’s styles have one or two chest pockets, while the women’s versions have shaped seams for a more feminine fit. The simple Burnside Woven Plaid Flannel Shirt is made of easy-care 80/20 cotton/poly and comes in three traditional plaid patterns.
- Durable work shirts can be casual too: Work shirts are built for dirty, tough jobs, thanks to their performance features, Sara explained. But these hardworking shirts double as casual corporate apparel and make long-lasting uniforms. You’ll find big brands like Dickies® and Red Kap® in our vast lineup. The Dickies Stain Release Work Shirt is made of 65/35 poly/cotton that resists stains and wicks away moisture.
- Blouses and cardigans offer style and professionalism: It’s no longer necessary to compromise fashion for workwear, thanks to ever-evolving blouse and cardigan designs that look both fashionable and professional. “These tops provide a professional look with a feminine design, in fabric women want to wear,” Sara said. Be sure to check out the Bella+Canvas Flowy Draped Sleeve Dolman Shirt, a gorgeous shirt with a flowy design and slightly fitted hem. The Rib Knit Open Cardigan is a beautiful layering piece—and 95/5 poly/spandex construction provides ultimate comfort and a great fit. Just add your embroidered logo to finish the look.
