Correlate
As part of Google Trends, Correlate shows searches that share statistically similar patterns.[19] Users can enter a query and compare the closest correlating terms by U.S. state, week or month. For example, Correlate can calculate which search terms are more popular in winter. (Results include Italian wedding soup, hockey tickets and colds.)[20]
Google Correlate likely will reveal unexpected terms that share similar search patterns. Here’s how to put this information to work:[21], [22]
- Examine your own data: Correlate allows you to upload your own data for analysis. Upload data about your customers to see which keywords correlate during varying times of the year and in different U.S. states.
- Create personas: Correlated queries shed light on potential interests of a person who also searches for the original term. For example, your original term is “grow tomatoes,” and correlating terms include “mid-size truck,” “online homeschool” and “lyrics Amazing Grace.” A customer persona could evolve of a homeschooling mom with a love of music and a husband who drives a pickup.
YouTube® Trends
View which videos are trending where and who’s watching them. YouTube Trends has two main features for exploring data: Dashboard and Maps. Maps is a visual representation of the top videos by region across the United States.[23] Dashboard allows users to browse trending videos and compare top clips by location, age and gender.[24]
YouTube Trends can make sure you never miss the latest viral video. Discover how to leverage the hottest clips for your business:[25]
- Know your target audience: Sort by your business’s target audience for the most shared and most viewed videos. Use research from YouTube Trends to guide your next video production—or at least provide inspiration for content marketing topics. You’ll gain insight into what your most attractive customers are watching on YouTube.
- Social media fodder: Find videos that resonate with your ideal customer and share them on your own social media channels. Cross reference with Google Trends and search #PopularOnYouTube while on YouTube for more options.
More data—More opportunity for insight
Google’s array of free data tools can be put to work in a myriad of ways for businesses. They can reveal powerful insights about business KPIs and the environment in which you do business.
Businesses that leverage data have a better handle on which activities generate the most value. Insight from data can shape innovation in the design of products, services and processes. The knowledge to help you eliminate waste, target the correct market and predict the most desirable product features is within reach. Data helps you know what to do next—instead of guesswork.
Moving forward, data-driven decision making will continue to inspire more new technologies, and organizations will have more data points from which to gain insight.
