one by one® story: Friends Helping Friends Club
Volunteer organizations are often sparked by a chance encounter. This is the case for the Friends Helping Friends Club. There was a young student with special needs who brightened everyone’s day with cheerful greetings as they entered his public elementary school. Sandy Adams, an adaptive physical education teacher, worked with this young man daily. His sister, then a high school freshman, asked Adams if she could attend school with her younger brother. Long story short, Adams was able to recruit seven high school students to assist her in PE class. With extra help and interaction from the high school students, the elementary students excelled—socially, physically and in every other aspect. As more high school students volunteered, the program grew, and Adams founded the Friends Helping Friends (FHF) Club. Within three years, 300 students joined the FHF Club. Today, it serves five schools and one adult daycare. And this year, the FHF Club is using baseball hat giveaways to help take a much-anticipated annual event to the next level.
Giving back with a ball game and hat giveaways 
Every year, FHF takes its members and the people they help to a live baseball game. It’s fun and exciting for everyone. This year, FHF wanted something tangible for each person to take home. Thanks to the 4imprint one by one® grant, FHF was able to order baseball hat giveaways.
“Everyone who participates, including me, is a volunteer. We feel so blessed to be able to give back and do something for these amazing kids. It’s kind-of like, you think you’re going to help these people, but you’re the one whose life is changed forever,” Adams said.
Some volunteers have been so touched by the people they help that they continue to give back. Abby Moon, one of the original volunteers, became the founding student president of the FHF Club. She went on to get her occupational therapy degree and now she and her husband—who is a special ed teacher—serve on the FHF Club board. Another original member became a Super Bowl champ. He continues to donate time, funding and other resources to the FHF Club.
