one by one®: Youth Go
For generations, the Neenah, Wisconsin nonprofit Youth Go has provided a safe gathering place for young people. The organization began in 1969 in a basement when a woman named Shirley Lopas believed teenagers needed a safe, supervised space to hang out. More than 50 years later, Youth Go continues to provide a place where young people feel a sense of belonging, acceptance and care.
Youth Go offers free recreation, education, support and wellness programming for youth in grades 5-12 to help them find success in school, develop as individuals and prepare for their next steps in life. “We hope that by participating in our programming, youth will learn about themselves, develop positive relationships with peers and adults, grow through their experiences, express their creativity, and cultivate their skills and potential in a safe and supportive environment,” said Danielle Karls, education coordinator at Youth Go.
Outreach promos help spread the word
Karls was happy to use a one by one grant to purchase outreach giveaways, including crystal paperweights and lip balm. “The lip balms are wonderful to help remind people who we are and also potentially spread the word about us to others,” said Karls. “The paperweights were used to keep our printed information secure during outdoor outreach events.”
A testament to what’s possible
James Evers is among the countless people who know firsthand about the impact Youth Go can make. Evers, once a youth who found belonging through the organization’s programming, is now a staff member. He serves as a program assistant and early intervention mentor while studying to become a math teacher as well. “Many kids don’t think about the future too much,” said Evers. “These staff members will ask them questions to help them make important life decisions. And if they’ve already made those decisions, they will help them get there.”
A note from Cheryl
It’s heartwarming to see an organization like Youth Go making a difference for young people for so many years. We’re proud that promotional products, like paperweights and lip balm, were used as outreach giveaways to help carry out that mission.
