one by one®: SpokAnimal C.A.R.E.
When Christina Tucker learned that SpokAnimal C.A.R.E. (Companion Animal Relationship Enrichment) received a one by one grant, the outreach coordinator knew exactly which item she wanted for the organization’s upcoming fundraiser, Riding with Rover. She thought the promotional coolers, which are also a backpack and chair, would be a big hit with supporters at the day-long motorcycle ride—the animal shelter’s longest-running fundraiser.
In addition to giving animals a second chance at life in the Spokane, Washington, area, SpokAnimal C.A.R.E. hosts vaccine and spay/neuter clinics and provides food and medical care if pet owners can’t afford the costs. 
Promotional coolers prove to be popular in basket auction
Riding with Rover started with breakfast at the animal shelter and ended with dinner at a restaurant about 30 miles away in Hauser, Idaho. Along the way, there were multiple stops that included lunch and other fundraising activities. There were also silent and live auctions after dinner, which included the promotional coolers for supporters to bid on and win.
“This is one of our three largest fundraisers of the year,” Tucker said. “So, we wanted to select an item that was not only unique, but also more expensive in hopes of it encouraging supporters to donate more money to our auction, and it worked.”
Another unique offering at this year’s event was an evening concert featuring a well-known band that has played at events like Sturgis Falls. SpokAnimal C.A.R.E. sold tickets to the performance, helping to raise its largest total ever.
Donations help dog with three legs get a new life
All proceeds from Riding with Rover benefit animals like Clyde, a dog that arrived at SpokAnimal C.A.R.E. in incredible pain from a shattered front left leg. The veterinary staff decided the best option was amputation of the leg. After the surgery, Clyde was provided with around-the-clock care by a dedicated team.
“Clyde is learning his new way of life as a dog with three legs, which hasn’t slowed him down one bit!” Tucker said. “He was adopted into a new family with a dog brother to explore and grow old with in comfort.”
