At the start of a new year, roughly 3 out of 10 Canadians make New Year’s resolutions. And while resolutions can be tough to keep, studies have shown they help people achieve their goals. Almost half of resolution-makers progress toward their goals, compared to 4 percent of those who didn’t make a resolution.

New Year’s resolutions aren’t just for people. They’re for organizations, too. Get inspiration from these five healthy habits of successful nonprofits. Pair them with nonprofit promotional items for a great start to 2019.

  1. Appreciate people

Your staff, volunteers, social media followers and donors contribute to your organization’s success. Carve out time to thank them, either in person, over the phone, via email or with nonprofit swag. Give away a flashlight to tell supporters they’re the reason your nonprofit shines.

  1. Dedicate more time to social mediaStatistics show that that 18 percent of Canadian social media users have donated to a charity after seeing a request posted on social media. Research which platforms your supporters use, develop a content calendar and share more.
  2. Build relationships

Many people who give money to nonprofits suffer from “donor fatigue”—a feeling that nonprofits only reach out to ask for money.

Alleviate that feeling by sending information and updates to donors throughout the year. Send stories about people affected by your work, photos of projects in progress, and extend invitations to events that don’t come with a plea for funding or a request for volunteers.

Remind them how much you appreciate their support with a photo of your most recent project or event. Include it with a nonprofit promotional item, like a magnetic photo frame. For top-tier donors, consider sending a photo box with pictures representing a goal their donation(s) helped your organization achieve.

  1. Collaborate and build coalitions

Successful nonprofits know that people achieve more together. Discover other nonprofits that complement yours and partner with them to do even more good through a shared project or event.

  1. Take time for self-care

Achieving work/life balance is just as important in the nonprofit sector as it is in any other job. Take a vacation, ask for help from coworkers and volunteers to avoid taking on too much work yourself, and make sure staff is cross-trained so work gets done in your absence.

Offer staff self-care promotional products, like essential oils, to help them relax. Or consider a dual-carabiner fidget spinner designed to help them focus and de-stress.

New year, new goals, new achievements

With a new year around the corner, it’s an ideal time to think about resolutions for even greater success in 2019. Pair your resolutions with nonprofit promotional items for a very happy new year.
