Boosting confidence with promotional items for kids
When it comes to lifting confidence, St. John Ambulance of the York Region goes above and beyond—with a little help from promotional items for kids.
A long history in first aid and community volunteering
St. John Ambulance has been operating in Canada since 1883. It’s first branch in Quebec City taught first-aid courses. Now, 130-plus years later, St. John Ambulance has become a national organization with branches coast-to-coast. The York Region advances the St. John Ambulance mission through several programs.
Teaching kids health, safety and leadership
Cadets, which teaches children and teens first aid and other essential skills, is the most prominent program offered by St. John Ambulance.
Lynn McLarnon of the York Region says, “Our cadet program works with children ages 6 to 17 on health, safety and leadership. We have one of the largest cadet programs in Canada with more than 250 youths participating.”
Promotional items for kids are a bonus to working with therapy dogs
St. John Ambulance York Region goes beyond teaching first aid by offering other child-centered programs like “I Play Safe with Dogs” and “Paws 4 Stories”. In 2019, the organization received a 4imprint one by one® grant and ordered crayons for use in these programs.
“In our ‘Paws 4 Stories’ program, children with learning challenges have the opportunity to read to a therapy dog. They practice their reading with the dog because the dog listens with no judgment. Our handlers and dogs bring with them a workbook and now the crayons for the children to enjoy during these reading sessions.”
Lynn says the promotional items for kids are an added bonus to their work with the therapy dogs.
