When Dean came to East Wellington Community Services (EWCS), he had already given up hope. As a recovering alcoholic, he says he probably wouldn’t be alive today if not for the support of EWCS, which helped him secure his home and food and find the support he needed to get his life back on track.
For 32 years, EWCS has been providing a wide breadth of services and filling unmet needs. From recreational programs to hunger relief, counseling to transportation services and beyond, EWCS has been committed to supporting residents in the Town of Erin and Guelph-Eramosa Township in Ontario, Canada.
Stephanie Conway, manager of marketing and fund development for EWCS says they help so many age groups and support so many different needs within the community, “In some way we’re kind of touching everybody.” One of their biggest challenges is addressing the increasing need for mental health services. Additionally, they’re hoping to expand services to include more youth programs, which includes employment-focused support such as resume building, and a place where youth can drop in when they might otherwise be home alone while their parents are working.
As a recipient of a 4imprint® one by one® grant, EWCS was able to order custom notebooks, specifically the Petite Poly Notebook Set, which they used as thank you gifts for volunteers and others who support the important work they are doing. With more than 140 volunteers, as well as community members assisting with strategic planning and other needs, finding a way to thank everyone can be a challenge. “We don’t have the funds to be able to purchase those things, and we certainly want to thank people for volunteering their time,” says Conway. “With this grant, we now have the ability to do that.”
