Did you know the number of voice searches has nearly doubled from 2013 to 2014? And that four in ten adults are now using it on a daily basis to do things such as ask for directions, dictate a text, call someone or check the time? Voice search is making its mark in the business world and it’s reshaping marketing as we know it.
As marketers, there are things you can do to optimize your website in preparation for the voice search revolution that’s upon us. Here are some tips:
• First, make sure your website is fully optimized for mobile. Have location data, including your address, and an embedded Google Map with your location featured on your website.
• Second, be sure to add listings to appropriate review sites such as Google Plus, Yahoo, Yelp and Trip Advisor; and encourage your customers review you. Digital assistants such as Google Now and Siri utilize reviews when compiling results.
• Third, when producing content for the Web, avoid focusing only on keywords. Rather, focus on answering general questions that your customers are asking. Develop FAQ or Q&A sections to answer those questions. If you don’t know what they are questioning, social media and online forums are a great starting point.
• And finally, be sure your website content focuses on answering subjective questions. For instance, what is the “best,” “top,” “recommended,” or “highest rated.” These words improve natural voice search as they are common words people utilize.
