one by one®: Mama’s Got Time
After giving birth, Angela experienced a flood of emotions, some of which weren’t positive. She didn’t feel connected to her baby, but she was embarrassed to admit those feelings and hid them instead. However, Angela isn’t alone. Many women struggle after giving birth. There are many resources available to help women overcome post-partum woes and get back to feeling like themselves. Mama’s Got Time, an organization that helps women experiencing postpartum issues, supports women like Angela every day. Donor thank-you gifts play a small part.
Creating of sisterhood of empowered mothers
Most commonly known as postpartum depression, perinatal mood disorders (PMAD) usually start within the first year after giving birth and can last for multiple years if untreated. Most women have an appointment six weeks after they deliver, where they’re asked a few questions about negative postpartum feelings. However, that six-week appointment isn’t enough. What’s more, insurance may not cover all costs associated with postpartum issues.
Mama’s Got Time steps in to help. It supports maternal mental health by providing a safe place for struggling mamas to talk about their feelings and experiences. PMAD includes more than just depression, so postpartum education is a big part of what Mama’s Got Time does. It’s important not only for mothers, but also for family members and communities, so they can recognize signs, understand what’s happening and know how to best handle postpartum issues.
Mama’s Got Time also raises money so women can attend counseling and therapy. The average cost of a therapy session is $147, which many women can’t afford. Mama’s Got Time makes therapy attainable by providing grants that cover the costs.
Donor thank-you gifts that double as fundraiser items
Samon Hoggard, founder and executive director of Mama’s Got Time, wanted to get a meaningful donor thank-you gift that would also double as an item to sell at fundraisers. Thanks to a 4imprint one by one® grant, Hoggard was able to order branded T-shirts.
“Our T-shirts say, ‘Nobody Does It Like Mama’ and they have our logo on the arm. The purpose is to sell the shirts and send 100% of profits to our grants. We also plan to gift donors who donate over $25 a shirt as a thank you,” Hoggard said.
