one by one® story: LASER

Tammi Wilder has experienced stressful mandatory evacuations due to wildfires several times. Being forced to leave home is hard no matter what, but having several horses, goats and dogs makes it even more difficult. Where will the animals go? Who will care for them? That’s where LASER, an all-volunteer nonprofit, steps in. With a highly structured program, well-trained volunteers, county agreements, local business partnerships and more, LASER provides information about emergency readiness, plus shelter and care for horses, goats, pigs, llamas, alpacas, chickens and more during evacuations. And with promotional sticker giveaways, LASER helps get the word out about its resources.

Clearing the path

Nestled in the mountains with little rainfall and surrounded by a national forest filled with pine trees, residents of Yavapai County, Ariz., are no strangers to fires. However, finding care and shelter for their barn animals on short notice is no easy task. And as more and more people become aware of LASER, the intake process slows, creating long lines and additional stress.

To speed up the process and help ensure owner and animal ID accuracy, LASER launched the “I AM READY!” campaign allowing people to prepare their intake forms before disaster strikes. When it’s time to evacuate, they can simply grab their handy folder of pre-filled forms.

“Each time our lives were in danger, I packed up and hauled our animals to a safe location, and each time I wished I had been better prepared. A wildfire could threaten us again, but I can leave quickly, knowing that LASER will provide a safe haven for my barn animals. My shelter intake documents have been completed for each animal, ready to grab and go,” Wilder said.

Reaching more and more animal owners with sticker giveaways

LASER wanted a way to quickly spread the word about its emergency shelter and the “I AM READY!” program. With its 4imprint one by one® grant, LASER purchased sticker giveaways imprinted with the phrase, “I AM READY!” plus important contact information.

People can display the sticker on their barn, horse trailer or anywhere else to help promote the program and raise awareness about LASER.

“A lot of people won’t leave their homes without their animals and people will evacuate more quickly if they have a clear plan. These stickers help us get the word out that a safe place for horses is nearby, so people can have more peace of mind when they leave,” Cathy Heath, Director/Secretary of LASER, said.
