one by one® story: Between Friends
Between Friends helps create accessible communities where people with disabilities are recognized as valuable citizens. With programs that range from summer day camps for kids to adult adventures to group learning activities, Between Friends provides fun, enriching activities for people with disabilities. Participants can be themselves, interact with peers and build true friendships while feeling safe, happy and included. Fundraiser giveaways help spread the word throughout the Calgary area.
Transforming Calgary into an inclusive community
One of Between Friends’ primary goals, called “No Barriers,” creates communities where there are no barriers for people with disabilities. This extends beyond physical things like ramps. For example, Between Friends helps eliminate financial barriers, like expensive fees that could make a program inaccessible.
Part of Between Friends’ vision is to create a fully inclusive community. To help achieve this, staff hold programs where they teach people without disabilities how to be inclusive and adapt their programs—from talking to kids with disabilities to adapting environments for people with sensory-processing disorders. Staff have been thrilled with the progress they’ve seen in the Calgary area as local organizations have taken inclusivity to heart.
Useful fundraiser giveaways drive big brand awareness
Between Friends recently rebranded, so staff wanted some swag with the new logo to help raise awareness. Thanks to a 4imprint one by one® grant, it was able to order golf balls to use as fundraiser giveaways for its annual golf tournament.
“Our goal is that the golf balls will remind people of us and of the golf tournament. When they use the golf balls, hopefully they think of us and the fun they had at the tournament and come back next year,” said staff member Hayley Bell.
