Here’s a story of one of the charitable organizations I had the privilege of working with.

Custom jar openers are opening doors for people living with vision loss. For anyone at any age, losing vision can be devastating. Eyesight loss impacts the tasks of daily living most people take for granted—everything from knowing how to fill a glass of water to finding matching clothes for the day to navigating the kitchen. While vision impairment represents a major change of life, New Vision for Independence dedicates itself to giving clients hope for the future.

Chantel Buck, CEO for New Vision for Independence in Leesburg, Fla., says the organization offers three pillars of service to its clients and community: vision rehabilitation, community education and support services. As a recipient of a 4imprint one by one® grant, New Vision for Independence ordered custom jar openers, a valuable promotional product for their clients, and one which effectively shares their message of hope and endurance.

“The majority of people we work with are seniors,” Buck says, explaining that the jar opener is a useful tool for many of them—and one that staff gives to clients when they’re providing instruction or making community presentations. “On the jar gripper in large, bold print it says, ‘Get a grip on vision loss.’ So, you have this handy dandy tool and it has an inspirational message on it that we’re here.”

New Vision for Independence provides life-changing direct service to more than 150-200 individuals of all ages in central Florida every year. More than half of its funding comes from grants and individual donations.
