Small businesses create two out of three new jobs, and more than half of Americans work for or own a small business. That’s truly worth celebrating! This year, National Small Business Week is May 5-11.
In honor of this celebration, we’ve got seven tips (one for each day) and small business giveaway ideas that provide multiple opportunities to promote your business, offer thanks, and introduce your company to new customers.
Day 1: Thank your customers
Day 2: Thank your employees, too!
Your products and services might draw customers in, but it’s your employees that keep those customers coming back. Thank your hardworking associates with a gift card or by buying them lunch at a local restaurant. Include a Thank You Note Card that says how much you appreciate them.
Day 3: Get social
Social media posts can get you seen. Sixty-five percent of Americans use social networks, making it easy for customers who need your products and services to find you.
Get online and let people know that you’re celebrating. Give a small business giveaway, like a Hashtag Stress Reliever, to anyone who follows, tweets or tags you while they’re in your store.
Day 4: Hold a contest
Contests are a fun way to promote interaction with your brand. And there are so many ways to host one. Offer an entry form to anyone who signs up for your online newsletter—or include a contest entry with each purchase.
Encourage people to participate by offering a high-end prize, like a Cutter & Buck® Club Duffel.
Day 5: Support another small business
Pick a neighboring small business or one that complements your company, and spend the week supporting one another. Host a mutual event, put a small pop-up display at each other’s businesses, or give them counter space to share a small business promotional product or discount coupon. For example, if they sell wedding dresses and you sell flowers, put the Plant-A-Shape Flower Seed Packet – Flower from your store on their counter and give a special discount to those who bring it into your shop.
Day 6: Offer extra value
Customers love to get a little something extra with their purchase. Choose a special small business promotional product that complements your products or services and pair them up. For example, if you service cars, give out a Tire Gauge Keychain with every oil change.
Day 7: Hold a special event
Pick an event that fits your business and invite customers (or potential customers) to attend. Hold an after-hours gathering with special discounts for your best customers. Or offer a small percentage of your sales for the day to a local charity and hand out a giveaway as a thank-you to anyone who makes a purchase. If you’re supporting a local animal shelter, for example, give out a Reflective Pet Collar Tag – Paw Print.
