Each year, it is important to take time to thank the nurses who play such an important role in the care of their patients and our loved ones. Nurses bring into their daily work the knowledge, kindness and understanding necessary to keep patients safe and comfortable.Take some time to thank nurses for their commitment to others by showing them how much you appreciate their work. Celebrate National Nurses Week (May 6-12, 2015) by doing something they won’t forget.
Pamper them. With all the time they spend caring for others, isn’t it important to be sure your nursing staff is cared for as well? Show them you care about their personal well-being by encouraging relaxation. Offer chair massages throughout the week or raffle off gift certificates to a local spa. Take care of their tired feet with a thoughtful gift, such as a manicure set or a cozy pair of slippers.
As the weather turns warmer, encourage your caregivers to spend free time outdoors with friends and family. Put together a gift bag with products they can use at the beach, such as a beach towel, beach ball, sport bottle and sunscreen. Or send them off for summer picnics with a cooler, a blanket and a flyer to toss around.
Keep them well.
Your nursing staff works hard for your patients. Help them stay healthy so they can continue their work. Cater in a healthy meal during the week or provide the tools they need to stay fit, like pedometers or wellness kits.
Cultivate caring ways.
Plant a tree in the courtyard in honor of your staff or donate trees in their names. You can also give them the tools and supplies to grow a garden at home. Gather seed packets, flower pots and herb kits, and pack it all into a gardening bag or colorful tote bag they can reuse.
With a thoughtful celebration, your hard-working nursing staff will know that they are appreciated this week and throughout the year.
