An office relocation isn’t a decision to be taken lightly. Changing locations can be a hassle for employers, employees and customers. And remember: the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
On the other hand, office move may solve space issues for growing companies, reduce costs or even help improve workflow and collaboration. Before making a move, check out these office moving tips to help you pick the location that’s best for your company.
Tip 1: Determine your needs. An office relocation takes a lot of thoughtful consideration. Start by considering the following:
- Location: When looking at a possible location, you’ll need to give some thought to how it will meet the needs of customers, employees, vendors and other stakeholders. For instance, is there enough foot traffic to ensure steady sales flow? Can customers gain access to your suite outside of typical building hours? And will vendors and suppliers be able to easily find and deliver to you?
- Brand image: Your image is everything. Make sure potential locations are compatible with your brand’s style and image. If not, are renovations in the budget to better pair the location’s structure with your image?
- Competition: Is your would-be location close to the competition? If so, could competing entities detract from your business? Or, on the other hand, could they bring you overflow traffic?
- Demographics: Is a potential location near where your target market lives, works or shops? Or where would-be employees want to live or work?
- Growth potential: Many office relocations occur when a business outgrows its old space. Make sure you choose a location that gives you room to grow so you don’t outgrow your new space too soon.
Tip 2: Evaluate your finances. When it comes to office moving, think beyond just rent and utilities. Be aware of hidden costs, such as renovations, decorating and IT upgrades. You may wish to hire a consultant to help determine if a would-be location is capable of meeting your technology needs.
