Another cool store at the Americana at Brand – Lululemon. They’re an athletic store – but not the kind you’d normally think of.
The founder, Chip Wilson, is a snowboarder/surfer type who liked the exhilaration of those sports. Then, he took a single yoga class. The endorphins kicked in. He was hooked.
At the time, yoga clothes were made mostly of cotton. His passion: innovation in yoga-wear. Chip’s vision was to reinvent yoga-wear using tech fabrics. So, he founded a design studio and hosted yoga classes to pay the rent. Eventually, Lululemon was born. (That’s the short version. You can read the whole story on their Web site.) Today, they make high-tech clothes for yoga, dancing, running and as they put it, “other sweaty pursuits.”
Actually, a trip to their Web site is worth it. They say their vision is to elevate the world from mediocrity to a place of greatness. Seriously. The company views its staff members as educators – and trains them to positively influence not only the people walking into their stores, but also their families and communities as well. And, to help customers do the same, they provide the GoalTender Web site, where you can set goals and track your progress toward them.
You can find Lululemon stores in Canada, the United States, Australia and China. And, their products are also available from other retailers.
