Yesterday was my oldest’s last day of school for the year. That means summer break, right? For her, yes. For me, not so much. I have taken on the task of being the PTA’s Food Drive Chairperson for the upcoming school year. In the past, our PTA has sponsored two food drives each year and since I am a planner by nature, I need to start planning now!
My responsibilities as chair include contacting local food pantries around the community to see what specific items they are looking for, recruiting other parents to help out what gathering/transporting the food and promoting the event. It will not be successful, though, if I don’t come up with a way to encourage student participation!
As I begin to layout my initial thoughts for this project, I’m thinking maybe some fun sport bottles or sportpacks, imprinted with the school logo and something about the event for each student and teacher in the class that brings in the most food. Or maybe a pizza lunch or ice cream party.
What has your PTA/PTO done to promote student participation?
