Make every minute count
Who hasn’t wished for more hours in the day? After all, time is money, right? In a world where we continually find our plates are full—even overloaded—the thought of wasting time can be hard to stomach. Unfortunately, wasted time often seems unavoidable. Did you know Americans are spending an average of 37 billion hours each year just waiting in line? Think of what could be done in 37 billion hours. If you are one of many entrepreneurs and small-business leaders looking to make the most of every second, take a look at this newsletter. It offers tips to boost your efforts and your business in just minutes a day, and some things can even be done while waiting in line.In mere minutes a day…
Here are some simple things every business owner can do to make every minute count.

  • Boost your social media presence: Social media can be a great way to engage and interact with customers. In just a couple minutes a day (perhaps even while standing in line), you can tweet a personalized message to specified followers or share a post with your Facebook® fans. Try a thought-provoking and engaging post—think TBT (throwback Thursdays). If you own a hair salon, post TBT hair-dos. Or an auto dealer could post TBT collector cars. Ask friends and followers to engage with you by sharing their own TBT pics in your comment feed for a chance to win a prize, like a logo’d Cosmetic Bag loaded with freebies or perhaps a Deluxe Car Wash Kit.
  • Send a handwritten note: The power of a heartfelt, handwritten thank-you note can go a long way to show your customers their business is appreciated. And since many other organizations have let this practice go by the wayside, your company will stand out among the competition. For just a few minutes a day, you could create customer loyalty, build relationships and maybe even generate referrals. Depending on your business, it may be hard to send a thank-you note to all your customers, so start with new customers. Include a small welcome gift to leave a lasting impression. A luggage tag or key light makes a nice choice.
  • Get organized: There are a number of tools out there to help small businesses get organized and make the most of their precious time. Is your task list a mile long? Or worse yet, a series of mismatched Post-it® notes stuck to your computer? The app Any.do allows you to quickly and easily organize your daily to-dos and tasks. Another timesaving app is EchoSign®. It allows you to electronically sign documents with ease while on the go. It also offers automatic tracking and filing. Or, how about Vowch (named one of the top ten apps of 2013)? This social recommendation app allows you to recommend (or “vowch” for) companies you’ve done business with. “Vowch” for others or check to see who’s “vowching” for you. Remember to show appreciation to those who recommend you with a token of thanks. How about a book from The Good Life Book Series: Thanks or a European Pen and Pencil Set?

We hope that you’ve found a few ideas you can use to make every minute count. Give one a try next time you’re waiting in line—it may be just the thing to give your business a boost.
