What exactly does “Performance Apparel” mean anyway? Many have asked this question. I don’t know if there is a universal answer, but what I do know is it has flooded our industry! To put it simply, performance apparel has added treatments and/or fabrication both of which work to enhance the function of the garment.
For instance, the most popular feature I’ve seen this year is fabric that will wick moisture away from your skin, therefore, keeping the garment dry when your body perspires. This is not new as it has been used for years in various types of thermal under garments; however, what is new is how it is now being used widely in Sport Shirts. Apparel companies use various terminology to describe this feature like; Rapid Dry, Edry, Dri-Fast or Dri-Fit to name a few. Your golf game is sure to improve if your shirt is not sticking to you during those hot summer days on the links!
Some other features that may categorize an item as a performance piece are:
Many garments will have a combination of features for added value. Stain and wrinkle resistant items are ideal for restaurant uniforms, while wind and water repellant pieces give protection from nature’s elements.
