I’m a gadget guy. I come from a long line of gadget guys. Give me the latest cellphone/MP3/Camera/Toaster/Garage Door Opener combo to play with and I’m a happy fella. Everything in my house is networked. I was thinking of putting GPS on the cat.
You may have read about how a major electronics retailer has created ‘names’ for types of customers based on how they shop and what their interests are in order to make their stores more relevant and interesting.
I’m sure one of them is called ‘Kevin’.
That’s what makes my list of favorite business gift/personal items so ironic. I’m a sucker for a great pencil or pen, a good writing pad or folder, and maybe something nice to carry them in. I love to jot down ideas – get them on paper – make notes, doodle, draw, sketch and write. There’s something special about the feel of a good quality pen putting good creative thought on a piece of paper – the rush of the latest wireless gizmo, while exhilarating, pales in comparison.
So, if you’re looking for that perfect business gift for a key client, important associate, or key donor/volunteer, consider a ‘throw back’ – pen and paper. In a world of ‘always on’ and 24/7, a gift that says, “slow down, think, enjoy” might just be the most thoughtful gift of all.
Just for fun, I’ve created a little hidden boutique store on our web site featuring a few of my favorites that fit this theme. Hope they spark some ideas for you.
If they do, be sure to jot them down!
P.S. – You’ll notice I slid a couple of food/coffee items in there. A little sugar and/or caffiene to spark the creative engine never hurt anyone!
