Dressing Down For A Good Cause

OK.  Here goes… my first blog post ever!  Thanks to Debbie Weil, the “mona lisa of blogging” for suggesting that this blog focus on stories that didn’t make the newsletter or in her words “items from the cutting-room floor.”

So, here’s a story about raising money for charities by simply dressing down at work.

An article in Counselor Magazine reported that Lee(R) Jeans helped raise about $7.4 million for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.  Participants in the Lee National Denim Day were asked to donate $5 to wear jeans at work.

NASCAR (of which I’m a huge fan) is doing something similar for NASCAR Day on May 20.  Proceeds will benefit three children’s charities.

I’m sure there are lots of creative things you’ve done to raise money for charities.  Just post your ideas in the feedback section of this blog.  My hope is that your ideas will help out someone else.

My son’s school bought your Courage, Strength,Unity bracelets and sold them for Tsunami relief (and a school dress-down day).

I like this idea! It doesn’t cost the company anything, and it might help a lot of people. And to help sell the idea to your company, it’s good for marketing!

I would like to do the same for a day like NASCAR, as I am involved with the quickly growing sport of Drag Racing (NHRA, IHRA). Please send ideas, I know it will help raise funds and give my new company some great PR.

    Thanks

Great for morale, we do something for statewide united charities drive but having a shirt or something to give in my local office might be worth exploring.

Thanks to you all for posting comments – I’m surprised anyone did:)

And now I have a question. One of the newsletter readers is starting a new business and would like some ideas for using promotional products to start it up. I thought I’d ask if you or someone you know has a unique idea for opening a business.

    Thanks for your help!
